Ball Bearing

Ball bearings are a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to reduce friction and allow moving parts to roll rather than slide. They're used in a wide range of applications, including vehicles, white goods, agriculture, and aerospace machinery.
Ball bearings have three main parts:
  • Grooved races: Two ring-like tracks that are the same width but different diameters
  • Hardened steel balls: Fill the space between the two races
  • Retainer or cage: Loosely restrains and separates the balls
Ball bearings are ideal for medium radial and axial loads, and offer good acoustic behavior at medium and high speeds.
Ball bearings can be made from a variety of materials, including:
  • Steel: Primarily used for ball bearings
  • Ceramic: Good for very corrosive or extreme temperature use
  • Nylon: A material used for ball bearings
  • Plastic: Suitable for good to very good corrosion resistance, but only for low load and low speed.
