Square Flange Bearing

A square flange bearing is a type of ball bearing that has a square housing and is mounted perpendicular to a shaft using four bolts. The flange helps to prevent the bearing from moving axially when exposed to vibration or axial loads. Square flange bearings are used in a variety of applications, and can be made from a variety of materials, including cast iron, pressed steel, and thermoplastic.
Here are some features of square flange bearings:
  • Housing
Square flange bearings are typically mounted in a cast iron housing, but other materials are also available.
  • Mounting
Square flange bearings are mounted perpendicular to a shaft using four bolts.
  • Load capacity
Four-bolt flanged ball bearing units can withstand greater loads than two-bolt flanged ball bearing units.
  • Self-alignment
Some square flange bearings have a spherical outer surface that matches the concave shaped inside diameter of the housing, giving the unit a unique self-aligning ability.
  • Thermal expansion
The flange helps to keep the bearing in place when the housing fit changes due to thermal expansion.
