Industrial Coupling

An industrial coupling is a mechanical component that connects two shafts to transmit power and absorb misalignment. Industrial couplings are robust and reliable, and are often used to transmit large torques.
Here are some things to know about industrial couplings:
  • Types
There are two main types of couplings: flexible and rigid. Flexible couplings are more common and can tolerate some misalignment, while rigid couplings are better for transferring torque efficiently.
  • Applications
Backlash-free couplings are used in applications that require precision, such as high-speed applications.
  • Features
Some couplings have special features, such as:
    • Beam couplings: Made from a single piece of metal, these couplings are stiff and can compensate for misalignment.
    • Bellows couplings: These couplings can flex while remaining rigid under torque, and can transmit velocity, angular position, and torque.
    • Split muff couplings: These couplings can be assembled and disassembled without changing the position of the shaft.
